Gears of War 3 is coming on September 20th and to mark the event Microsoft and Xbox are launching a special edition of the Xbox 360 and the seperate limited edition wireless controller. The Console bundel comes with one Gears of War 3 – red and black themed Xbox type S (That’s the new skinny one) with the built in WiFi, a headset, two wireless GOW3 branded wireless controllers and a 320GB hard drive, which is all pretty cool. The power and eject buttons also play custom GOW sounds when used… I bet that will get real annoying after the first few times.
It also comes with the standard GOW3 game and a code for the ‘Infected Omen Weapon Pack’ (infected omen skin for use on the five starting weapons: Lancer, Retro Lancer, Hammerburst, Gransher, and Sawed-Off Shotgun) and the Adam Fenix model for multiplayer. Not bad eh! But the price you say, what price? Well heres the kicker – its €399 in Europe or$399 in the U.S.A. – Strange that they are the same number making the U.S. one better value in terms of currency. Still, pricey enough when you consider that the Kinect bundle is around the €/$ 250 mark. But hey, its black and red, right!
Also for those who don’t want a new xbox but like the limited edition controllers, you can pick them up for €/$ 59.99. Its basically the same controller that comes with the bundle and features the new transforming D-Pad, some DLC codes for weapons (Lancer, Retro Lancer, Hammerburst, Sawed-Off Shotgun and Gnasher) and a custom topped case. But all this and no wireless charge kit or battery!! That’s right its AA batteries, oh and they are sold separately too.
Gears of War 3 – the game - will also have three editions, Standard, Limited and Epic, all at various prices on September 20th. So, what kind of Gears head are you? Personally I just want to play the game without all the bells and whistles.
